PDF Lock & Encrypt

Password-protect your PDFs with encryption. Set a user password to require it for opening.

Sending a PDF by email is not the same as sending it securely. This tool encrypts PDFs with a password you choose, so the file requires it to open. The passphrase is used only to derive the key in your browser and is never stored anywhere. Encryption runs entirely on your device.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about pdf lock & encrypt.

What encryption is used?

Standard PDF encryption with broad reader support is applied, so the protected file opens only with the user password you set.

Is my password stored anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser and the password is never transmitted, so even the site operator cannot recover it.

Can I restrict printing or editing?

The tool sets a user password that is required to open the file. Permission restrictions such as preventing printing are managed separately by readers and other tools.

Does locking change the page content?

No. Encryption applies to the file itself, so page text, images, and layout are preserved exactly while the file is protected.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Encryption runs entirely in your browser, so documents containing sensitive data never leave your device.

What happens if I forget the password?

The password is the only way to open the encrypted file, and it is not stored anywhere. Keep a copy of the password somewhere safe before you download.
