How does PDF comparison work?
Text is extracted from both PDFs with PDF.js, page by page, then compared line by line. Each differing line is listed with the old and new text side by side.
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Both files are parsed locally in your browser, which makes the tool suitable for confidential documents.
Does it compare formatting and images?
No. Only the extracted text is compared line by line. Fonts, colors, layout, and images are not part of the comparison.
Why does it say the documents are identical?
If the extracted text matches on every line, the PDFs are treated as identical even when the visual layout differs, since only text content is compared.
How are results presented?
A summary shows each file's name and page count, plus the number of differing lines. Each difference appears in a card with minus and plus styling for old and new text.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs have no text layer, so nothing to compare is extracted and the tool reports no differences. Run OCR on both files first.
