FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about bmi calculator.
How is my BMI calculated?
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters. In imperial mode the tool converts pounds and feet-inches to metric first, so the formula and the WHO categories stay exactly the same.
What do the BMI categories mean?
The tool applies the WHO adult ranges: underweight below 18.5, normal 18.5-24.9, overweight 25-29.9, and obese 30 or higher. A color-coded bar shows where your result sits and the label updates live as you type.
Can I see a healthy weight range for my height?
Yes. Once your height and weight are valid, the tool shows the kilogram range that corresponds to a BMI of 18.5-24.9 for your height, which is a useful target for most adults.
Is my health data private?
Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser on the values you type; nothing is saved, sent, or shared with any server, so you can use it without creating an account.
Why is BMI not accurate for athletes?
BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat, so muscular people are often classified as overweight or obese. Treat the category as a screening signal rather than a medical diagnosis, and combine it with other health measures.
