Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about font finder.

How does font detection work?

Your sample text is measured on a canvas first in monospace, then with each candidate font. Fonts whose measured width differs from the monospace baseline are reported as installed.

Which fonts can it detect?

A fixed list of 15 common fonts: Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Georgia, Courier New, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, Impact, Comic Sans MS, Palatino, Garamond, Bookman, Tahoma, Lucida Console, and Monaco.

Can I test custom sample text?

Yes. Edit the sample text field and run detection again. Words with distinctive glyphs such as f, g, or w improve the reliability of width-based detection.

Why is a font I know is installed not listed?

Detection only covers the 15 supported fonts, and the width method can miss visually similar fonts, for example Arial versus Helvetica on some systems.

What is the image drop zone for?

It accepts a reference screenshot, which is only displayed as a preview. The image does not influence detection results.

Does this send my text anywhere?

No. All width measurement happens locally on an off-screen canvas element, so the sample text never leaves your browser.
